Anchar or Amchar

Anchar (or Amchar) – pronounced ah-char
Definition: A spicy, pickled condiment, usually made from mango, pommecythere or other fruit. It is seasoned with anchar massala, garlic and ground hot pepper.
History: Derived from Indian cuisine, it’s popular as a side or topping enjoyed with street food and home-cooked meals.
Examples: Mango anchar, tamarind anchar.
Recipes: Enjoyed in doubles, saheena, kachori, and aloo pie.
