Father’s Day Menu | Meal Ideas

The morning started with our 7 year old running into my bedroom at 7 am!! I thought she was eager to give her daddy the countless cards she made for him, but no, that was not the case.

In her tiny hand was my borrowed jewelery box with her tooth in it and on her face was a very confused, forlorn face…My jaw dropped. My heart skipped a beat or two..Maybe it stopped beating altogether…I went cold. My life flashed in front of me. I have once again failed as a parent..the tooth fairy fell asleep and forgot to take the tooth and leave money…How could she?

I followed her into her bedroom eager to help her figure this “puzzle” out…After one minute of looking here, there and everywhere I found a $10 bill stuck between the bed frame and the mattress…Yes, you can call me Mrs. David Blaine. Situation solved. Temporarily. Read on. “But mummy, why the tooth fairy didn’t take my tooth?”..What the heck do I say now? I responded as intelligently as I could under pressure…”Ahmmm, Maybe she was really busy (or sleepy and tired ppl), I will mail it to her.” And I scurried out of the room, very afraid of any additional questions, which I probably did not have an answer for. I breathed a sigh of relief. This was much better than the time her older sister lost a tooth, put it under her pillow and never mentioned a word to us.

Thankfully, the rest of the day went smoothly. We had breakfast in the backyard with all their daddy’s favorites, canned salmon cooked with onion and tomatoes, egg with tomatoes and bacon, fried bake, toasted bagel with lox and cream cheese…..chai tea….berries and peach fruit salad…..

Fried bake on the right…..sooo yummy….

Hot homemade waffles (courtesy of my wonderful neighbor) smothered with frozen strawberry smoothie…..sprinkled with fresh berries…to pretend it’s healthy….I can’t tell you whether this was the main course, dessert or side..it’s all a blur..so absolutely delicious..

The Dah(the daddy) requested a “Trinidadian’ late lunch of Trini stewed chicken, red beans and rice with boiled ripe plantain……and a salad…

…and so ends a wonderful day for the pampered dad. Personally I am glad it’s over! This father’s day business is hard work. Is mother’s day here yet?? ok, I’ll be nice…….
Hope everyone had a Happy Father’s day and a special HFD to my daddy in heaven…..Everything I do, I do it for you. xoxoxoxo
With love,
Ria
